Exclusive: NIGHTCRAWLER Blu-ray Clip Goes into the Film’s Inspiration and Gyllenhaal’s Physical Transformation

     February 9, 2015

Today, we’re pleased to premiere a Nightcrawler Blu-ray clip from the disc’s special features.  In the clip, writer-director Dan Gilroy explains his inspiration for the film, a crime photographer in New York City in the 1930s who was the first person to put a police scanner in his car.  Gilroy then updated this idea to the present day, which meant following stringers a.k.a. “nightcrawlers”, who race to be the first to film crime scenes and accidents.

This clip also touches on Jake Gyllenhaal‘s extreme weight loss, and how it surprised his co-stars, but ultimately made sense when they saw how it connected with the actor’s haunting, visceral performance.

Watching these special features and also seeing the clips from the film makes me remember that I’m going to have to buy what was my 2nd favorite film of last year. Click here to pre-order your copy.  The film hits Blu-ray and DVD on February 10th.
