The original Japanese anime series Odd Taxi will be having a feature film titled Odd Taxi: In The Woods premiering next year. The exciting news comes directly from the SugoiLITE Twitter account who posted a visual teaser along with the animated movie’s release date.

Created by Kazuya Konomoto, who also wrote a subsequent manga series based on the anime, and directed by Baku Kinoshita Odd Taxi’s plot is enveloped in mystery but it also contains strong social commentary that translates itself into contemporary satire. The story, filled with anthropomorphic characters—just like other popular anime like Beast Stars—focuses on the middle-aged taxi-driving walrus Hiroshi Odokawa who lives an ordinary if boring and quiet life in Tokyo. The only people he hangs out with and talks to as friends are Gouriki, his doctor who is trying to cure him of his chronic insomnia, and Kakihana, his classmate from school. Odokawa is odd but his patrons are not any less odd themselves. All the banal conversations he has with his colorful but peculiar patrons leads to a young student who has gone missing. Odokawa sees his life turned upside down as he gets entangled in the case.

Where Odd Taxi distinguishes itself is with its unconventional visual aesthetic, hilarious black humor, and equally unconventional approach to narrative, characters, and dialogue. The first season premiered in the spring of this year and was wrapped with a total of 13 24-minute episodes. The original voice cast consists of Natsuki Hanae (Demon Slayer), rapper METEOR, Kappei Yamaguchi, Ryohei Kimura, Riho Iida, Koudai Sakai, Suzuku Mimori, Moeka Koizumi, and Manatsu Murakami among others.

There is not much information available regarding the film’s plot as of right now not even if it will be a continuation to season 1's satisfying closed ending. However, we do know that Odd Taxi: In the Woods is set to debut on April 1, 2022.
