Office Christmas Party is one of those movies where the entire premise is spelled out in the title, and in the case of comedies, that's usually for the better. Though there looks to be plenty of storylines being followed throughout the latest comedy from Will Speck and Josh Gordon, who were last seen directing The Switch and episodes of Netflix's problematic Flaked, but the main focus is a massive, chaotic holiday party that prompts several seemingly placid workers to lose their ever-loving minds.
The first trailer for the film, which you can check out right below, puts most of the focus on two separate diptychs, those being the wild ones (Kate McKinnon & T.J. Miller) and the normal ones (Jason Bateman & Jennifer Aniston) who are at the head of this party. Despite the fact that Aniston and Bateman, as well as co-star Olivia Munn, are the more well-known names overall, the trailer smartly puts focus on Miller and McKinnon, two of the most talented comedians currently working. Miller has been a consistent miracle worker on HBO's fantastic Silicon Valley, and he looks to be bringing the same inventive energy to Speck and Gordon's film, but McKinnon is just now beginning to come down after stealing nearly every scene in Ghostbusters that she appears in.
When she instructs party goers to have their illicit sex in the parking lot next door, you can already see her similarly walking away with Office Christmas Party, even with major supporting roles from the likes of Courtney B. Vance, Sam Richardson, Randall Park, and Jillian Bell. Regardless, from the looks of things here, Office Christmas Party will at least have a few good belly laughs strewn amongst its 90-120 minutes when it arrives in theaters nationwide on December 9th.
