Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for On My Block.Netflix’s teen dramedy On My Block has come to an end after four seasons. The show debuted in 2018 and was largely well-received due to its inclusive cast and coming-of-age story. Set in the fictional Los Angeles neighborhood Freeridge, the show followed four bright high school students whose friendship would be put to the test by gang violence, teen romance, and hidden treasure. The popularity of the series has led to a spin-off series, Freeridge, being greenlit. A new core group of four protagonists, who appeared in the Season 4 finale of On My Block, will be taking the reins.

But for the fans of the On My Block cast, it won’t be long before you see your favorites back on screen again. Let’s take a look at what the actors are working on now that the show is over.

Sierra Capri (Monsé Finnie)

The character of Monsé Finnie put Sierra Capri on the map. Monsé was Capri’s first major acting credit and she’s left an indelible mark playing an Afro-Latinx character who is complex, intelligent, kind, and also just a teenager. Monsé really came into her own in the final season, and Capri has credited the producers for allowing herself, and the rest of the cast, to add more input into their characterizations.

Capri has been reticent in revealing details about her next project. So far, her only revelation has been in an interview with TVInsider, where Capri mentioned that she’s excited for a "huge project coming up." We’ll just have to wait and see how high this youngster’s star rises.

Jason Genao (Ruby Martinez)

Ruby Martinez (Jason Genao) was just another happy-go-lucky kid who’d seemingly found the love of his life when his whole world was turned upside down in the Season 1 finale. Jason Genao’s layered portrayal of Ruby over four seasons of On My Block made the character that much more likable and relatable.

Of the core four cast members, Genao has the most prominent portfolio. He had a small role as mutant Rictor in the Wolverine threequel Logan and also starred as Napoleon on Netflix’s The Get Down. After the conclusion of On My Block, Genao continues to be prolific, being attached to three very different kinds of projects. Genao will be voicing the character Beck Ambrose in the podcast series adaptation of the young adult novel Free to Fall. He’s also set to star alongside fellow Netflix breakout star Lana Condor in Boo, Bitch, a young adult comedy series that will reunite Genao with On My Block creator Lauren Iungerich. From podcast to television to films, Genao will join forces with Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Aaron Eckhart in action-thriller Ambush, reportedly based on a true story from the Vietnam War.

Brett Gray (Jamal Turner)

No friend group is complete without a nerd and a drama queen, and Jamal Turner (Brett Gray) was both. It was Jamal’s love for adventure and conspiracy theories that led him to investigate the secret RollerWorld money. At the start of Season 4, it seemed like the funny and kind Jamal was lost forever, but he went back to being his kooky self by the series finale.

Prior to starring in On My Block, Gray had appeared in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and in Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us. Gray’s next project is as the voice of central character Dal in Star Trek: Prodigy. Dal is the leader of a group of alien children hurtling through the galaxy with the help of a holographic Captain Janeway (voiced by Kate Mulgrew). Much like Jamal, Dal is completely out of his depth and a fish out of water, but hopefully Dal’s perseverance will pay off as Jamal’s did.

Diego Tinoco (Cesar Diaz)

Of all the characters in the show, Cesar Diaz (Diego Tinoco) was the most unpredictable. The youngster had a tough life, and despite his best efforts, was sucked into becoming a gang member to protect his friends and family. Tinoco perfectly captured the character’s conflicted feelings about gang life and making a better life for himself throughout all four seasons of the show.

Tinoco had guest-starred on Teen Wolf prior to starring in On My Block. Earlier in 2021, he played Tybalt in the highly experimental remake R#J, a modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet told through screens and text messages. The film screened in film festivals but has not received a theatrical release yet. Tinoco will next be starring as a "Mysterious Assassin" in Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac, a remake of the anime film Seinto Seiya, alongside Mackenyu, Famke Janssen, and Sean Bean.

Jessica Marie Garcia (Jasmine Flores)

Jasmine Flores (Jessica Marie Garcia) could have been yet another plus-size supporting comic relief character whose romantic feelings toward one of the leads went unrequited, but On My Block upturned the status quo by allowing Jasmine to become a central part of the show and Ruby’s girlfriend.

Before appearing in On My Block, Garcia was known for her roles in Liv and Maddie and Diary of a Future President. Alongside the Netflix show, Garcia also guest-starred on the Viola Davis-starrer How to Get Away with Murder. Garcia has also been busy co-hosting the YouTube series Go Off with Jess & Julissa with Julissa Calderon (Gentefied). At the 2021 edition of DC FanDome, it was announced that Garcia will be voicing Renee Montoya on DC Comics and Spotify’s audio adventure Batman Unburied.

Julio Macias (Oscar "Spooky" Diaz)

Cesar’s older brother Oscar "Spooky" Diaz (Julio Macias) may have seemed intimidating at first, but he was just a young man caught in a bad situation. Macias made the tough job of acting like a gangster with a heart of gold look easy in the four seasons of the show. Oscar deserved a happy ending and was so close to achieving it before he was gunned down.

Macias has a long resume of roles in many shorts and he was also a guest star on Netflix’s Selena: The Series. He has already booked a couple of new projects, voicing the Narrator in animated miniseries Young Dario and starring in the horror film The Last Boat to Alcatraz.
