Relativity Media has released the first trailer for director Scott Cooper's (Crazy Heart) drama Out of the Furnace.  The promising pic stars Christian Bale as an ex-con steel worker who seeks vengeance when his brother (Casey Affleck) disappears after getting involved with a local crime ring.  Backed by Pearl Jam's "Release," this trailer is heavy on mood and atmosphere, promising some intense performances from the entire cast, including a sinister turn from Woody Harrelson.  As a huge fan of Crazy Heart I was already looking forward to this one quite a bit, but this trailer is stellar.  In addition to what looks to be a pretty involving thriller, Cooper looks to be tackling issues of the working class alongside themes of redemption and family, solidifying this as one of my most anticipated films of 2013.

Here's a synopsis for Out of the Furnace:

The film is a drama about fate, circumstance, and redemption. Russell and his younger brother live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything.  Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.
