One of my favorite under-seen movies of 2018 was Bad Robot's ass-kicking Nazi mutant movie, Overlord. The blood-soaked World War II thriller by way of B-movie earned a spot on our a number of our year-end lists, from the Best Horror Movies to the Best Movies You May Have Missed, and they were all well-deserved. One of the highlights of the film is undoubtedly the action-packed opening sequence -- a hellish air-drop gone wrong in the set in the sky above Nazi-occupied France. It's a breathless and immersive piece of filmmaking from director Julius Ramsay, but it couldn't have been made without the help of special effects.

Fortunately, if you missed Overlord in theaters, now's your time to amend that! The film arrived on Digital today and drops on Blu-ray February 19th, and to celebrate, we've got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the special effects that helped bring the nightmare to life.

Overlord stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell,  Pilou Asbaek, Iain de Caestecker, John Magaro, Mathilde Ollivier, and Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo).

Here’s the official synopsis:

With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a mission that’s crucial to the invasion’s success. Tasked with destroying a radio transmitter atop a fortified church, the desperate soldiers join forces with a young French villager to penetrate the walls and take down the tower. But, in a mysterious Nazi lab beneath the church, the outnumbered G.I.s come face-to-face with enemies unlike any the world has ever seen. From producer J.J. Abrams, Overlord is a thrilling, pulse-pounding action adventure with a twist.
