Pacific Rim is without a doubt one of my most-anticipated films of the year. It’s been too damn long since we’ve seen a Guillermo del Toro movie, and I love that he’s coming back with his biggest flick yet. Those who are writing off the film as nothing more than Transformers can be somewhat forgiven since the marketing hasn’t given them much more than mechs and alien beasts, but anyone who knows del Toro’s work knows that he puts character and story before all else. And then after the story and the characters you get giant fucking robots fighting giant fucking monsters.
I’m pleased to announce that we’re giving away 10 pairs of passes to the Atlanta screening of Pacific Rim. Hit the jump to find out how you can see the movie early and for free. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. Pacific Rim opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 12th.
To enter for a chance to win a code that will allow you to redeem up to 2 admit-one passes, send an e-mail to Collider.Passes@gmail.com with the subject line “PACIFIC RIM”. The screening is on Tuesday, July 9th at 7:30pm at Regal Atlantic Station, so don’t enter if you think you’ll be unavailable. Please note that a pass is not a ticket. To guarantee a seat, please arrive at the theater early since seating is first come, first serve. Please note that this screening has an interesting quirk. There will be TWO auditoriums for the movie. One is in 3D and the other is in IMAX 3D. The IMAX 3D auditorium will be filled first, so if you want to see the movie in IMAX 3D, then please keep that in mind with regards to how early you plan to show up. Also, I know that Atlantic Station doesn’t have real IMAX, but it’s still a big damn screen and this is a big damn movie. If I were you, I’d try to get into the IMAX 3D screening.

And here’s the official synopsis for Pacific Rim:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
