Paramount Pictures is looking to pick up The Hauntrepreneur, an original spec script by Scott Rosenberg (Gone in Sixty Seconds) with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes to produce. The Hauntrepreneur centers on a family that moves to a new town and has difficulty fitting in. They hire a strange man known as the Hauntrepreneur, who creates a haunted house full of oddball residents to help patch up their difficulties. How exactly this is supposed to help, I have no idea.

According to Heat Vision, The Hauntrepreneur is said to have a tone similar to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In my opinion, it sounds as if a dash of Beetle Juice was tossed into the mix.

In recent years, Platinum Dunes has marked their territory in the genre of horror remakes, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre films, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. It seems that Michael Bay, along with Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, are lightening the tone with The Hauntrepreneur and another family film, the untitled Ouija project directed by McG.

As for Rosenberg, his past writing credits include Con Air and other projects under the Jerry Bruckheimer production banner, as well as screenplay work for High Fidelity. Rosenberg has made a more recent foray into television, with work on series October Road, Life on Mars and Happy Town.
