PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Virtual Reality Game Coming in 2016

     June 16, 2015

Now that Paramount finally settled on an October 23rd release date for Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, it’s on to the next installment of the franchise – a virtual reality game. Beast Media Group’s VRWERX just announced that a virtual reality game based on the film series will be available in 2016 for PC, mobile, consoles including Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and head-mounted displays including HTC Vive, Sony’s Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift.

Here’s what Beast MG’s co-managing partner Russell Naftal had to say about the endeavor:

“Paranormal Activity is the perfect property for VRWERX. This franchise represents a huge audience that loves visceral, unbridled terror, which we intend to intensify through the incredible immersion that only virtual reality enables. Our goal is for the Paranormal Activity VR video game to not only be the scariest game you’ve ever played, but the scariest experience you’ve ever had!”

I’m not a big gamer, but as a big horror fan, I can definitely get behind that. 4D experiences are all the rage right now when it comes to film promotion and one of the best I’ve been through is Insidious Into the Further because it feels like a haunted house. Yes, it’s cool to explore Cerebro and jump off buildings with Divergent‘s Tris, but there’s something about the haunted house vibe that feels more tangible.

The official press release doesn’t come with any story details for the game, but I’m hoping it’s set in a seemingly harmless suburban house rather than some sort of “Ghost Dimension.” Scares in the former could actually keep you up at night whereas there’d be a serious disconnect between the game and the real world if everything took place in an alternate reality.

What do you think? Are you interested in exploring the Paranormal Activity mythology virtual reality-style?
