Director Paul Solet (Grace) has been tapped to helm the thriller The Faces for FilmNation Entertainment (House at the End of the Street and The Raven). Written on spec by Eric Reese, The Faces centers on newlyweds who, one year after barely escaping a brutal kidnapping, learn of an underworld society that uses terror as a means of entertainment. FilmNation and Sonny Mallhi (The Strangers) will produce the pic alongside executive producer Chuck Simon.

Although I haven't seen Solet's Grace, you can count me amongst those interested in The Faces as the "underworld society" plot point reminds me of Eyes Wide Shut. I know what you're wondering, and yes, I'm that easily won over by synopses. For a little more on the project, hit the jump for the press release.

Here's the press release:

(Los Angeles, CA) August 25, 2011 – FilmNation Entertainment announced today that director Paul Solet will direct The Faces, an acquired script from up-and-coming writer Eric Reese. Solet previously directed the highly acclaimed Grace, based on his award-winning short film of the same title. The Faces will be produced by FilmNation Entertainment and Sonny Mallhi (The Strangers, The Roommate). Chuck Simon will executive produce the film. FilmNation will also be handling international sales.

A year after narrowly escaping a brutal kidnapping, a pair of newlyweds find themselves plagued by a horrifying series of events. They soon discover the existence of an elite underworld society which uses terror as a means of entertainment.

The Faces is an original and gripping tale which will no doubt captivate audiences,” said FilmNation’s President of Production, Aaron Ryder. “Eric is a talented genre writer with a very long and prosperous career ahead.”

FilmNation recently completed House at the End of the Street starring Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men First Class) and The Raven starring John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe.  The company is also in pre-production on Mud starring Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey and directed by Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter); in development and fully financing an untitled Oren Peli project; in development on James McTeigue’s Message From the King from writers Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell; F*cking Engaged which will star Jessica Biel; and The Amateur American directed by Ross Katz.

The project was brought in to FilmNation Entertainment by Juliana Cardarelli, director of production, with the deal brokered by head of business affairs Alison Cohen. Eric Reese is repped by CAA and The Gotham Group.
