Last weekend Collider hit the red carpet at the Scream Awards. The event was held in a massive outdoor theater on the Universal back lot, right around the corner from the Bates Motel and just in front of the giant blue screen they used for the end of The Truman Show. If you’ve taken the studio tour, you probably know the place.

While on the red carpet, we got a chance to talk to Game of Thrones star Sean Bean, Pee-Wee Herman himself, Paul Reubens and Saw and Insidious creators James Wan and Leigh Whannel. The artists told us about returning from the dead on Thrones, the relation of LSD to Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, 3D remakes of Jaws, biopics of famous Demonologists and much more.  Hit the jump for the interviews.

PAUL REUBENS

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Just before Reubens came up, his publicist said that I would only get two questions because he was already supposed to be off the carpet. Then, she gave me more than two questions. I was totally baffled the whole time because Reubens was dressed as Pee-Wee, talking like Pee-Wee, but doing the interview as himself. The man comes from improv, so when he saw my hesitation he threw me around like a rag doll, reducing me to a stuttering mess incapable of asking a coherent question. I think it’s pretty funny.

  • 00:00 – 00:30 I ask Reubens if LSD or other hallucinogens ever played a part in the creative process of Pee-Wee. He says no and then offers me some psychological counseling.
  • 00:30—1:05 Reubens talks a bit about his new Judd Apatow produced Pee-Wee film. He describes the movie as a road trip picture in the same vein as Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and promises that it will be set in the real world. He then denies that it will be a family film until his publicist steps in to correct him. Then, he destroys my ability to perform an interview by making fun of me while acting like one of my childhood heroes.
  • 1:05 – 1:40 Discussion of Todd Solondz.
  • 1:40—2:00 Discussion of future projects and the possibility of working with Tim Burton again. He promises to remake Dark Shadows after Burton finishes the Johnny Depp version.

JAMES WAN and LEIGH WHANNEL

  • 00:00 – 1:15 Wan and Whannel talk about Saw’s first test screening. They explain how it scored higher than any test screening in Lionsgate history and defend the much-maligned test screening process.
  • 1:15—1:55 Will the duo ever make a straight comedy film? Maybe, but no current plans.
  • 1:55 – 2:50 Whannel tells about his adventures swimming with sharks and James (jokingly) suggests a remake Jaws.
  • 2:50 – 3:00 The duo share their thoughts on 3D filmmaking.
  • 3:00 – 3:25 Wan gives us a tidbit on his upcoming biopic of famous paranormal investigators and demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren (http://www.warrens.net/)
  • 3:25-3:55 Whannel discusses his future as an actor and explains his passion for independent film. The duo promised to keep making indies in the vein of Insidious.

SEAN BEAN

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Sometimes when you’re doing red carpet the bigger name stars won’t show up until close to show time. As a result, they won’t be able to hit every single outlet. Most often this means that a given writer/actor/director will just leave in the middle of the line. Even though we had better placement than most online outlets, this is pretty much what happened with Bean. However, his publicist was kind enough to invite the last few journalists after his cutoff to do a group interview. The folks on both sides of us were TV channels that could not use footage of us asking Bean questions, so we chose to remain silent and make the video useable for everyone. Generally, Collider won’t post content where we are not doing the interview ourselves, but given the circumstances we decided that this was fair.

  • 00:00 – 00:48 Bean discusses Stark’s death scene and how it was a good send off for the character, allowing him some level of redemption.
  • 00:48 – 1:04 Bean talks about his role in Snow White and what it was like to be Julia Roberts’ husband.
  • 1:10 – 1:30 Bean explains why he doesn’t write acceptance speeches.
  • 1:30 – 2:10 Bean expresses his mixed feelings on starring in such a successful show and knowing that he isn’t part of it anymore. He also floats the possibility of flashbacks.
  • 2:10 – 2:32 Bean admits that he is terrified of reporters.
