We still don’t have an official debut date nor any concrete plot details, but Penny Dreadful will return to Showtime in 2015 and now it’s got a very brief teaser to prove it.  There’s no footage just yet.  All it is is a little voiceover from Eva Green and, I believe, Danny Sapani, warning that the past “never leaves us” and “it is who we are.”

Season 1 veterans Josh HartnettTimothy DaltonReeve CarneyRory KinnearBillie PiperHarry Treadaway, Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale will also return and they’ll be joined by newcomers Patti LuPone, Douglas HodgeSarah Green and Jonny Beauchamp.  Hit the jump to check out that Penny Dreadful season 2 teaser.

Much of the first season did revolve around our main players’ pasts, namely Vanessa’s condition and Sir Malcolm’s relationship with his daughter, Mina (Olivia Llewellyn), but based on the way season 1 wrapped up, I’d like to bet Ethan’s story will get a little more attention during the second go-around.  In fact, at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, creator John Logan did tease interest in exploring Ethan’s situation further, possibly through a flashback episode like Vanessa’s “Closer Than Sisters.”

Just in case you missed out, here’s the official synopsis of Penny Dreadful, although I do highly recommend catching up:

Some of literature's most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. PENNY DREADFUL is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama.
