No one is immune from scandals including the rich and powerful. The new Netflix miniseries, Anatomy of a Scandal centered on the U.K. elite, specifically James Whitehouse (Rupert Friend) a British Minister who's been accused of sexual assault. His wife, Sophie (Sienna Miller) denied these allegations against him, nevertheless, there was still a part of her that questioned whether she really knew her husband that well.

Each episode of Anatomy of a Scandal uncovered more details on whether James was actually guilty, as witnesses were brought into the courtroom to tell their version. Being a miniseries, Anatomy of a Scandal won't likely continue its story in a new season, but there are plenty of other political dramas to watch to see protagonists try to clear their names or their clients' names of any accusations or fight their beliefs.

The Good Wife (2009 - 2016)

In The Good Wife (2009 - 2016) Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) cared about her husband, she cared about him enough to return to her profession as a lawyer to free him from jail. Her husband is Peter (Chris Noth), a state attorney accused of bribery, corruption, and cheating. With her husband in jail, she returned to her profession full-time to support her family.

The Good Wife incorporates both political cases and legal cases in its seven-season run. There are several episodes within The Good Wife that push the characters and test how easily they can handle stress inside and outside the courtroom. The Good Wife is currently streaming on Paramount+.

Borgen (2010 - 2022)

Among the highest-rated foreign series on Netflix, according to IMDb, is the Danish political drama, Borgen (2010-2022). The term "Borgen" means "The Castle," but in this TV series, it references the Christiansborg Palace, Danish Supreme Court, Parliament, and the Prime Minister. Sidse Babett Knudsen portrays Birgitte Nyborg, the first female Prime Minister of Denmark.

Most of the characters didn't believe in the Birgitte's credibility and strength to overcome challenges. Borgen extended past the political challenges that Prime Minister Nyborg faced and presented the issues that she had to face in her personal life. Borgen is currently streaming on Apple TV and Netflix.

Homeland (2011 - 2020)

Homeland (2011-2020) stars Claire Danes as a former CIA operative, Carrie Mathison, assigned to solve terrorism cases. Her latest case was videotapes of an American man who's been held hostage by Al-Qaeda. Even though the agency rescued the man, a U.S. Marine Sergeant, Claire suspected that the case wasn't closed.

Viewers learn that Claire was let go from the CIA after she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and now was required to take medications to treat it. Homeland keeps its viewers on the edge of their seats. Most of the seasons tracked Carrie's medical history as well as further hostage situations that Carrie was tasked with. Homeland is currently available on Hulu.

The Newsroom (2012 - 2014)

The Newsroom (2012- 2014) takes viewers behind the scenes to see what goes on in the newsroom. Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) is a charming yet strict anchor for the Atlantis Cable News (ACN). He is the most trusted anchor on television because he reports the news without sugar-coating it.

The "public's eyes and ears of the government" are reporters. They are expected to uphold a standard of ethics and deliver the news with as little bias as possible. Some television news stations lean left or right, but Atlantis Cable News upholds the standard of delivering the news without favoring either side. Yet Will's latest comments at a public panel sparks criticism across all social media platforms and risk the future of the station as audiences were turning away from the Network. The Newsroom is currently streaming on Hulu and HBOMax.

Scandal (2012 - 2017)

One of the best female TV show characters of the 2010s is Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), from the TV series Scandal. When a political figure is caught up in a scandal capable of destroying their entire career, they turn to Olivia Pope. Olivia Pope is the owner of Olivia Pope and Associates, a crisis management firm.

With her team of "gladiators," she makes sure that her clients' issues are swept under the rug. She weighs each situation and each client whether they are worth saving or not. While there are some cases that span over a few episodes, Olivia's team handled cases from tragic accidents to Presidential affairs. Scandal is currently streaming on Hulu.

Madam Secretary (2014 - 2019)

Madam Secretary (2014-2019) stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth McCord, the new Secretary of the State. Elizabeth was previously a CIA analyst, a professor, and a mom, and now she was appointed the next Secretary of the State after the Secretary of the State died in a tragic accident. Now as the leader of the Cabinet, Elizabeth has to advise the President on foreign affairs while still taking care of her family.

Viewers who joined watching Madam Secretary may enjoy the 1999 TV series The West Wing (1999 - 2006) which took a closer look at the lives of the White House staff and how they managed crises that affected President Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen). Madam Secretary is currently streaming on Netflix, Paramount+, and Amazon Prime Video.

Designated Survivor (2016 - 2019)

Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) was a cabinet member for the President of the United States until he was selected to be the next President. During the attack on the United States Capitol, Kirkman was appointed as the Designated Survivor who had the authority to rule over the country.

Most of the White House staff have little to no faith that a man who previously never held a leadership position in his life is capable of leading a country. Season 1 of Designated Survivor (2016-2019) focuses on the events that led to the bombing, but the TV show also moved toward following a pandemic storyline later on in the seasons. The Crown (2016 -)

Queen Elizabeth II currently stands as the longest-reigning British monarch in history. During her 70 years in power, Queen Elizabeth II was admired by her people, but she was confronted with tough decisions and detrimental situations. The Crown (2016 -) chronicles the Royal family from Queen Elizabeth's early rise to power.

Not only does the TV series show the tensions between the monarch and her family members, but also presents real historical events and the Queen's controversial approach to them. The first four seasons of The Crown are currently streaming on Netflix, and season 5 is anticipated to be released in late 2022. Netflix and Left Bank Pictures are discussing the possibility of creating a prequel about Britain's Kings.

Ingobernable (2017 -)

In Ingobernable (2017) Emilia Urquiza (Kate del Castillo) is the First Lady of Mexico and the wife of President Diego Nava (Erik Hayser). She files for divorce from her husband after realizing they had different views. Her husband attacks her after finding out about the divorce and hits her until she loses consciousness.

The next time that Emilia woke up, she saw her husband's dead body laying on top of a car. Ingobernable includes an intense storyline as Emilia escapes the crime scene, and everyone is looking for her. The first two seasons of Ingobernable are currently streaming on Netflix.

Mrs. America (2020)

Set in the 1970s, the miniseries Mrs. America (2020) tracks the lives of women who are against and for Equal Rights. Phyllis Schlafly (Cate Blanchett) is a conservative activist who is against the women's liberation movement. Phyllis believes a woman should be a caring mother, and wife, and believes that the liberation movement will disrupt the idea "traditional American family". Whereas the women's liberation movement included Gloria Stein (Rose Byrne), who believes in giving all women a voice.

Mrs. America shows an interesting conflicting perspective of women who are pinned against each other. These women will fight to gain supporters in their battle for their own beliefs. Mrs. America is currently streaming on Hulu.
