During Sunday’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead, AMC released a new sneak peek at the upcoming series adaptation of Preacher. If you were one of those caught up with the MTV Movie Awards and all the various clips and trailers that hit the airwaves, you don’t have to wonder what you missed.
The clip, released online by AMC, features an intense backseat battle between Tulip O’Hare, played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Inhuman Ruth Negga, and some goon after a map in her back pocket. After firing a bullet at the guy in the passenger seat, the scuffle turns into a knife fight as the car aimlessly snakes through the corn maze. Then Tulip pulled a mouth that Rick from The Walking Dead totally owns at this point — she bites into the guy’s face.

Tulip is the ex-girlfriend of Dominic Cooper’s Jesse Custer, a troubled preacher man in West Texas who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that grants him an unusual power. Along with Jesse, Tulip is one of the three main characters of the series. The third is the Irish vagabond Cassidy, played by Joseph Gilgun. She’s also a total badass.
During an interview with The Guardian, Negga said of Tulip:
“She’s sort of unforgettable. She has no morals. She’s an agitator assassin, a gun for hire, and she’s written the way male characters are usually written. Conscience is something she buries; obviously she’s damaged. It’s really intriguing. I’d never read a part for a woman like that. They usually have a tender heart or a soft spot for some guy. Not Tulip. You read certain scenes in the script and think: are we allowed to do this? It’s great playing someone unsympathetic and not having to justify her actions.”
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg developed Preacher for AMC based on the comic book of the same name. The show will debut on AMC this May 22 at 10 p.m. after the Fear the Walking Dead midseason finale.
