After two title changes and two release date delays, Project Almanac, formerly Almanac and Welcome to Yesterday, is finally making its way into theaters. The film stars Jonny Weston as David, a kid who comes across his late father’s plans to build a time machine. Determined to complete his dad’s work, David recruits his two best friends (Allen Evangelista and Sam Lerner) to help him put it together and has his little sister (Virginia Gardner) record what happens.
Release date delays tend to put a film in a negative light, but I’m telling you, don’t write off Dean Israelite’s feature directorial debut. I got the opportunity to catch an early screening back at San Diego Comic Con and it’s a strong sci-fi thrill that’s absolutely packed with fun, interesting and surprisingly believable tech details. The film is also more grounded than you might expect largely because it really does feel as though this is what a group of teens might decide to do with a working time machine. With Project Almanac due in theaters on January 30th, Paramount is ramping up the promotional campaign with five new TV spots and one of them actually has a choose your own adventure component to it. Hit the jump to check out the new Project Almanac TV spots. The film also stars Sofia Black-D’Elia.
Here’s the official synopsis for Project Almanac:
A brilliant high school student and his friends uncover blueprints for a mysterious device with limitless potential, inadvertently putting lives in danger.
