It’s been three years since Prometheus hit theaters. I know there’s been a lot of talk about a sequel ever since, but I still didn’t think it’d ever happen, especially after Neill Blomkamp’s Alien movie was confirmed. However, if this new report is true, Prometheus 2 is moving forward, and pretty soon.

The latest issue of Total Film (via Scified.com) claims that Prometheus 2 will shoot in January 2016 and includes the following quote from Scott:

“I’ve got back into the sci-fi thing, I kind of adore it.”

The Prometheus 2 start date isn’t a direct quote, but I’d like to think that the outlet got the information from Scott himself. If that is the case, perhaps Prometheus 2 really is a go, but I’m still hesitant to consider that start date a sure thing, especially because, as we know, things change and there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Scott seemed happy with the script back in November, but he’s still probably got a good deal of pre-viz work to do and I’m sure that casting and scheduling will take some time to hash out, too. Plus, you’ve also got to wonder, what does this mean for Blomkamp’s Alien movie? Is Fox moving forward with both and turning the series into a shared universe of sorts? Scott also recently committed to direct the El Chapo movie, The Cartel, but given the quote above and the fact that Prometheus 2 is much further along, it seems likely that Prometheus will take off first.

We’ll keep you posted as more details come together.
