In preparation for the premiere of Queens on October 19, ABC has released a new trailer for the show that dives into the true story behind the fictional hip-hop group's rise and fall from fame. The "Beneath the Hits" trailer, clearly done in the style of a Behind the Music documentary, includes interviews with Ashanti, T-Boz of TLC, Tyrese Gibson, and Cam’ron to help tell the story of this fictional, chart-topping 90s powerhouse group.

The trailer begins with a clip of Eve's Professor Sex in front of a burning mansion with backup dancers performing the band's top hit “Nasty Girl,” as a voiceover tells us about the success of the foursome informing the viewer that “from chart-topping hits to sold-out arenas around the world, there was no bigger hip-hop group at the turn of the millennium than "The Nasty B’s." The trailer goes on to shed some light on the then lives of the notorious girl group and touches on the party culture that may have played a part in bringing them down. It seems that this might be it for the group until a brand-new performer, Lil Muffin (Pepi Sonuga), brings their story and music back to the spotlight.

Queens will tell the story of Brianna aka Professor Sex (Eve), Jill aka Da Thrill (Naturi Naughton), Valerie aka Butter Pecan (Nadine Velazquez), and Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics (Brandy) as a one-time top, hip-hop girl group known as The Nasty B’s. The girl band, now in their 40s, haven’t spoken in 20 years and are retelling their rise to fame and fortune and the fallout that was to follow. Sonuga (Famous in Love) also stars as a rising emcee, Lil Muffin, that brings The Nasty B’s back into the spotlight, as does Taylor Sele as the super group’s manager.

Judging by the information given to us by the trailer, we can expect to see big personalities and even bigger fights, along with catchy songs and maybe even some closure for the ladies of this sensational band from the past. For now, enjoy the trailer and be sure to tune in to hear the stories told by the characters themselves when Queens premieres on October 19 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
