The impeccably talented cinematographer Harris Savides has sadly passed away at the age of 55.  You may not recognize the name, but you're no doubt familiar with Savides’ work.  He was the cinematographer on such films as Zodiac, Milk, Elephant, American Gangster, Whatever Works, and The Game, and he was responsible for now-legendary music videos like Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer”, Fiona Apple’s “Criminal”, and Michael Jackson’s “Scream.”  Savides crafted absolutely gorgeous images, from his incredible period work with David Fincher in Zodiac to the wonderfully understated nature of Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere.  His last film as a cinematographer was Coppola’s upcoming The Bling Ring.

No cause of death was given, but Savides’ passing is a major loss for the film landscape.  Our thoughts are with his family and friends.  Hit the jump to remember some of Savides’ fantastic work.
