Tuesday TV Ratings: NEW GIRL Steady as MINDY PROJECT, NEW NORMAL, and GO ON All Drop

     October 3, 2012

Tuesday night’s comedies took another hit this week in the ratings.  Here’s a brief glance at the highlights:

  • Fox’s New Girl was even with last week’s premiere, earning a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo for a solid hold.
  • Elsewhere on Fox the results weren’t quite as promising, as both The Mindy Project and Ben and Kate were down from their series premieres last week with a 1.9 rating and a 1.6, respectively.
  • NBC didn’t fare much better, as The New Normal and Go On were also down with a 1.7 and a 2.2 rating in the demo, respectively.  Nevertheless, both series were picked up for full season orders yesterday.
  • The second season of The CW’s Hart of Dixie came back strong, earning a 0.7 rating in the demo which is up from the 0.6 rating for the season one finale.

Hit the jump for all the ratings results from Tuesday, October 2nd, including Raising Hope, Parenthood, Vegas, NCIS, and more.

  • go-on-matthew-perryFresh off a full season pick-up, the Matthew Perry-fronted Go On scored a 2.2 rating and 6 million viewers, down 13% from last week’s 2.7 rating.  The comedy has improved creatively as it’s found its footing (ie. letting the talented ensemble cast shine) and I’m happy to see how the full season progresses.
  • Also earning a full season pick-up was Ryan Murphy’s comedy The New Normal, but the show’s ratings were down yet again this week with a 1.7 rating and 4.6 million viewers, down 15% from last week’s 2.7 rating.
  • The drama Parenthood was down a tad from last week with a 1.7 demo rating and 4.48 million viewers versus last episode’s 1.8.

  • CBS’ procedural favorite NCIS was the most watched program of the night, netting a 3.6 rating and a head-scratching 18.5 million viewers.  Even so, the episode was down from last week’s 4.1 rating.
  • ncis-season-10Sister show NCIS: Los Angeles scored a 3.1 rating in the demo and 14.87 million viewers, down slightly from last week’s 3.4.
  • New series Vegas was down 16% from last week’s series premiere with a 2.1 rating and 12.1 million viewers.  That’s respectable, but the show has a ways to go before it stands tall with CBS’ other drama programming.

  • This week’s 100th episode of Private Practice scored a 1.6 rating in the demo for 6.12 million viewers, down 16% from last week’s 1.9 rating.

  • The only Tuesday comedy that wasn’t down on Fox was New Girl, which netted a 2.8 rating and 5.1 million viewers to hold steady against last week’s season premiere.
  • ben-and-kate-episode-2Raising Hope kicked off its season with a 1.7 rating and 3.9 million viewers, down 45% from last season’s premiere rating of 3.1 (though that episode followed the highly anticipated series premiere of New Girl).
  • New series Ben and Kate dipped again, scoring a 1.6 rating in the demo and 3.26 million viewers which was down 24% from last week’s 2.1 rating.  Though the episode wasn’t as funny as the series premiere, I’m still a big fan of the chemistry between the show’s cast.
  • Fox’s other new series The Mindy Project was down 21% from its series premiere, scoring a 1.9 rating and 3.75 million viewers.  Drops from the pilot to the second episode are expected, so retention next week will be the true test.  This episode actually seemed creatively stronger than the pilot, so hopefully Mindy sticks around for a while longer.

  • Though some were surprised to see it picked up for a second season, The CW’s Hart of Dixie returned strong with a 0.7 rating and 1.54 million viewers, down only a tenth from its series debut last year and up from the 0.6 rating of its season one finale.

Check back tomorrow for full ratings from tonight’s Presidential debate-affected programming, and as always leave your thoughts in the comments below.  Which new Tuesday shows are you hoping stick around?  Any winners in Fox’s new comedy lineup?
