After the victorious release of Prime Video’s Reacher in February 2022, fans of the show were welcomed by the excellent news that Prime Video has almost immediately renewed the show for a second season. This show has a mix of an excellent cast, good source material, plenty of action, and an intellectually stimulating plot. The second season promises us more of the same, and with plenty of books left, we can hopefully have more screen time for Alan Ritchson.

Editor's Note: This piece was updated on December 9.

The first three episodes of Reacher Season 2 are set to premiere on Prime Video on December 15, 2023. The remaining five episodes will stream on Prime Video every Friday, with the finale streaming on January 19, 2024. Additionally, Reacher has already been renewed for Season 3 ahead of the Season 2 premiere, so you can rest easy knowing there's plenty of Reacher stories on the way.

Previously, Prime Video released a sizzle reel in July 2023, that revealed that the new season of Reacher will arrive in December 2023. As with the previous season, Reacher Season 2 will be debuting exclusively on Prime Video in all markets. This is a boon to the international audience of Lee Child’s books as it is available on one platform, and you do not have to use a VPN or hunt down an alternative streaming service like many other shows. Back in December 2022, Collider's own Steve Weintraub had sat down with Amazon Studios' Head of Television Vernon Sanders who had revealed that Season 2 would premiere sometime in 2023.

"It's going really well. Alan is back, and he is so fantastic in the role. I'm so proud of the producers [for] finding that fit for Reacher. The Reacher fans of the book, their reaction to the show has just been a dream. Season 2 is awesome. And as great as season one was, I think season two delivers beyond that, and I do think there's a good chance that that show will be back next year."

"I don't hit soft."

A sizzle reel was released on Prime Video's YouTube channel on July 13, in honor of Prime Day, showing fans their first look at Season 2 of the series alongside clips of other upcoming Prime Video releases including Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Candy Cane Lane. Recently, we at Collider had the honor of exclusively premiering a new sneak peek for Reacher Season 2, which you can see below:

The official plot synopsis for Reacher Season 2 reads:

Reacher Season Two begins when veteran military police investigator Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) receives a coded message that the members of his former U.S. Army unit, the 110th MP Special Investigations, are being mysteriously and brutally murdered one by one. Pulled from his drifter lifestyle, Reacher reunites with three of his former teammates turned chosen family to investigate, including Frances Neagley (Maria Sten); Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan), a forensic accountant for whom Reacher has long had a soft spot; and fast-talking, switchblade-wielding family man David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos). Together, they begin to connect the dots in a mystery where the stakes get higher at every turn, and that brings about questions of who has betrayed them—and who will die next. Using his inimitable blend of smarts and size, Reacher will stop at nothing to uncover the truth and protect the members of his unit. If there’s one thing Reacher and his team know for certain, it’s that you do not mess with the Special Investigators. This season, get ready for Reacher and the 110th to hit back hard.

This season of Reacher is based on the 11th book of the Jack Reacher book series Bad Luck and Trouble. Yes, this skips 10 books in between the first season and the second season of the TV show, which for the book lover that I am is a slight bit cringe. Nevertheless, it seems that the 11th book is an excellent choice for good source material. The synopsis of the book starts off by saying

From a helicopter high above the empty California desert, a man is sent free-falling into the night…. In Chicago, a woman learns that an elite team of ex–army investigators is being hunted down one by one.... And on the streets of Portland, Jack Reacher—soldier, cop, hero—is pulled out of his wandering life by a code that few other people could understand. From the first shocking scenes in Lee Child’s explosive new novel, Jack Reacher is plunged like a knife into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends…and is on its way to something even worse.

Other executive producers include Don Granger (The Tomorrow War), Scott Sullivan (FUBAR), and Adams Higgs (Orphan Black), as well as David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell from Skydance.

The first season of Reacher is based on Lee Child’s debut book Killing Floor. The main plots follow an ex-army military investigation Jack Reacher accidentally finding that his brother has been murdered in the quiet town of Margrave, Georgia. After promising to get payback, vengeance, and justice he teams up with local police officers Roscoe Conklin and Oscar Finley to uncover a massive underground counterfeiting operation with links to South America. The operation was funded and assisted by several South American factions, as well as the Kilner Foundation which essentially owned Margrave. In just a few days Reacher completely upends the whole town, takes out a few corrupt leaders, gets some nice closure for Roscoe, and looks absolutely amazing while kicking far too much behind.
