One of my all-time favorite games is Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption. Ever since 2010, I’ve been patiently waiting for news of a sequel, and today that patience was finally rewarded. A couple days ago, we got hints that Rockstar was planning something Red Dead related, but we didn’t know if it was a remastered version of Red Dead Redemption, a spinoff, or a true sequel.

Today, Rockstar has made it official by announcing that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming in Fall 2017 to PS4 and XBox One, and that the first trailer will be released on Thursday at 11am EST. While I’m incredibly excited to get a first official glimpse at the new game, I’m also telling myself there’s no way we’re getting it in Fall 2017. Delays are par for the course in the video game industry. You may recall that Grand Theft Auto V was originally targeted for summer 2013, but had to be pushed back to September to allow for further polishing.

And I’m fine with waiting now that I know that Red Dead Redemption 2 is officially on the way. Hopefully, along with the trailer on Thursday, we’ll also get some news about what new features the game will offer, how it will build upon its expansive multiplayer, and how it will draw players deeper into the Old West.

Come back on Thursday to check out the first Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer. I’ll be over here waiting in vain for an announcement for Bully 2 (seriously, I know that game didn't do as well as Red Dead and GTA, and its title invited controversy, but it was so good!).

Here's the official synopsis for Red Dead Redemption 2:

Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.
