Dust off your machetes, citizens of Crystal Lake, Warner Brothers has finally set a release date for the sequel to last February’s “Friday the 13th” franchise reboot/remake/whatever other buzz word. The follow up is set to be released August 13th, 2010, and awesomely enough will be the 13th film in the long running series beginning with Sean S. Cunningham’s original “Friday the 13th”. Hit the jump for some musings and a few rumors that have been circulating the interwebs about the continuing adventures of Jason Voorhees.

This is pretty cool news to me since I was actually a pretty big fan of the remake. Not necessarily a masterpiece, but it had hot, naked women being killed by a hulking mute in a nondescript mask. And, frankly, if you walk into a “Friday the 13th” flick expecting anything other than that…I don’t know what to tell ya. Move to Europe. Whatever you think about Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, Platinum Dunes does some great work with these horror remakes, from the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” remake right on down the line to the new fucking awesome trailer for “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (which you can watch here). Long story short, these guys understand these movies and know what the fans want to see.

Speaking of what fans want to see, rumors are circulating that at least a portion of the new “Friday” flick will be taking place at Crystal Lake during the winter, which means we get to see Jason stalking and killing in snow, and that just sounds like the coolest goddamn thing ever. There’s also talk that the flick may be shot in 3D, which is kinda interesting and could be cool. The “My Bloody Valentine” remake was cool in 3D, after all, and who doesn’t want to see breasts and machetes in 3D? Anywhosies, fans of this year’s “Friday the 13th” can hopefully look forward to strapping on their hockey masks (or sacks with one eye-hole, whatver your freak is) and getting more quality Jason goodness next August.
