On the heels of yesterday's official synopsis for writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil: Retribution, we've found out when you'll be able to see the first footage from the movie.  According to the studio, the teaser trailer premieres Thursday, January 19 at 10am PST and it's also going to play in front of Underworld: Awakening starting January 20 in theaters.  With Screen Gems producing both franchises, it's a natural fit.In addition, earlier today I was able to ask Anderson how the shoot went and how it compares to the previous movies.  His answer after the jump. Here's what Anderson emailed me tonight:

Shoot went great.  Wrapped on Christmas Eve, but we got it all done.  Technically and physically it was the hardest RE shoot so far.  Complex VFX and extreme action combined with worldwide locations - Moscow, New York, Washington DC, Toronto and of course Raccoon City.  Really trying to push the envelope with this one and make the first truly epic undead movie.

And here's a bit of more good news for fans of Resident Evil, I did a set visit about a month ago and the embargo lifts on the 19th at noon PST.  So make sure to check back for my full set report and on set interviews with Anderson and most of the cast.  The film stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Kevin Durand, Shawn Roberts, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb, Boris Kodjoe, and Li Bingbing.

Finally,  if you missed it, here's my in depth interview with Anderson that I did in London a few months ago.  If you're a fan of Resident Evil, you'll learn a lot about the upcoming movie.

Here’s the official synopsis for Resident Evil: Retribution:

The wildly successful film franchise adaptation that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide to the popular video game series, “Resident Evil,” returns in its highly anticipated fifth installment, “Resident Evil: Retribution” in state-of-the art 3D.

The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.
