That rumbling sound you hear is the stampeding of a million fangirls already lining up for Robert Pattinson's latest project. Staying across the pond, the British star is confirmed to star with Nicole Kidman in the film "Bel Ami." Helmed by renowned UK theater directors, Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, the film will start shooting next February in London and Budapest. Hit the jump to find more about this "erotically charged story of ambition, power and seduction."

Based on the 1885 Guy de Maupassant novel of the same name, "Bel Ami" tells the story of a former low-level soldier, George Duroy, who scales the heights of elite Parisian society and discovers fame and fortune. Naturally, he accomplishes this as much through his actions in the boudoir as in the boardroom. Kidman is likely to play the main mistress, Madeleine Forestier, the woman most responsible for Duroy's successes.

When asked to elaborate on their interest in the project, the producers responded that "in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession, the film has a contemporary relevance." I'm not sure about that but I'll give it a thought while I watch "Cougartown" on DVR. [ScreenDaily]

UPDATE: According to GossipCop.com, Nicole Kidman's rep has said that Bel Ami is, "categorically not happening for her."  I'm assuming "Twilight" fans will respond to this news with a collective shrug.
