Hot on the heels of the news that Fox is developing a TV series adaptation of the 1988 film Big comes word that a Rush Hour TV show is also in development—and from another Cougar Town executive producer, no less.  Deadline reports that director Brett Ratner and TV vet Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town) have closed a deal with Warner Bros. TV to co-write and executive produce an hourlong action comedy adaptation of the Rush Hour franchise.  Ratner directed all three films in the series, which was essentially a trio of buddy cop action-comedies revolving around a straight-laced Hong Kong cop (Jackie Chan) who is paired with a cocky, fast-talking LAPD officer (Chris Tucker).  More on the Rush Hour TV show after the jump.

Per Deadline, the plan for the Rush Hour TV show is to stay close to the premise of the first film, revolving around the oddball pairing of the two cops.  There has been talk of a fourth Rush Hour film since the release of Rush Hour 3 in 2007, but it never came to fruition and now it appears that Ratner is keen on moving the conceit to the TV world.

Ratner is well-versed in television having executive produced Prison Break and the short-lived Chaos, and Lawrence is a TV vet having acted as the creator and showrunner of Scrubs and executive producer on shows like Spin City, Clone High, and currently Ground Floor.  One imagines that a number of networks will be very interested in the Rush Hour TV show once it goes out to buyers, and my hope is that the Asian and African-American casting of the two leads in the films carries over to the show.
