As the woman behind The Proposal, Anne Fletcher held on to the title of "Director of the Biggest Hit of Sandra Bullock's Career" for about six months, until The Blind Side's John Lee Hancock usurped the throne.  (Damn you, Hancock!)  But some bonds are stronger than box office.  Bullock is currently attached to Most Wanted, a Fletcher feature with Proposal co-star Ryan Reynolds on board to co-star. Fletcher and Bullock will then make a run at the hat trick, with a third film in the works.

Details are mostly under wraps for the untitled project, based on a pitch by Pamela Falk and Michael Ellis (The Wedding Planner).  Hit the jump for the little we do know, plus a look at Bullock's upcoming calendar.

THR describes the project as "in the vein of the Paul Mazursky film An Unmarried Woman (1978) and Saturday Night Fever (1977)."  Despite the notably narrow release window, the Fletcher/Bullock project will be set in the present day.

Here's the logline for An Unmarried Woman:

The story of the wealthy New York wife Erica Benton (Jill Clayburgh) whose “perfect” life is shattered when her stockbroker husband Martin (Michael Murphy) leaves her for a younger woman. The film documents Erica's attempts at being single again, where she suffers with confusion, sadness, and rage. As her life progresses, she begins to bond with several friends and finds herself inspired and even feels happier by her renewed liberation. [Wikipedia]

And for Saturday Night Fever:

Tony Manero, an immature young man whose weekends are spent visiting a local Brooklyn discothèque; Karen Lynn Gorney as his dance partner and eventual girlfriend, and Donna Pescow as Tony's former dance partner and girlfriend. While in the disco, Tony is the king. His care-free youth and weekend dancing help him to temporarily forget the reality of his life: a dead-end job, clashes with his unsupportive and squabbling parents, racial tensions in the local community, and his associations with a gang of macho friends. I suppose the common thread is New York City strife?  I've got nothing insightful.

The dancing element may be key here, given the talent involved.  Fletcher got her start as a choreographer, with credits for Bring it On, Step it Up (her directorial debut), the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Hairspray.  Adam Shankman --- a fellow former coreographer --- helmed the final entry on that list, and serves as producer here.  I don't know... can Sandra Bullock dance?

Oh, right.  She can.

Following her Oscar win in March, Bullock has been mentioned in connection with the following projects:

  • Most Wanted: the aforementioned action-comedy with Ryan Reynolds
  • The Abstinence Teacher: Steve Carell co-stars in the latest from Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris
  • Never Forget: a drama that centers “one woman’s quest to reimburse Holocaust survivors who were swindled out of their heir’s insurance policies by a European insurance company.”
  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: Tom Hanks is also attached to this Stephen Daldry-directed book adaptation
  • Gravity: an ambitious-sounding sci-fi picture from Alfonso Cuarón

Bullock is reportedly deciding between Extremely Loud and Gravity for her next project.
