The 90s resurgence continues, and the next nostalgia-inducing property to get a small screen redo is Cruel Intentions. We learned earlier this month that the 1999 drama-thriller was being sequelized in the form of a TV series on NBC, but at that point it was unclear who—if anyone—from the original film would be back. Tonight, however, Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram to announce that she’ll be reprising her role as the conniving Kathryn Merteuil.

For the uninitiated, Cruel Intentions came during the 90s boon of teen-centric drama thrillers and horror movies and revolved around two wealthy step-siblings—played by Gellar and Ryan Phillippe—who make a game out of seducing the naïve Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), with the prize being that Kathryn will allow her step brother to have sex with her. The 90s were weird.

The TV series will pick up in real time, revolving around the 16-year-old son of Phillippe and Witherspoon’s characters, aptly named Bash Casey. When Bash stumbles upon his late father’s journal, he learns of a legacy he didn’t know existed and sets out to attend the prestigious Brighton Preparatory Academy, where the seduction games of the film played out.

As seen in the photo Gellar shared on Instagram, the film’s original writer and director Roger Kumble is directing the pilot with Neal Moritz producing. Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross serve as co-writers and executive producers, and presumably showrunners should NBC order the pilot to series.

Landing Gellar is certainly a big get in terms of nostalgia, and one wonders if Witherspoon might be up for a cameo. No stranger to television, Gellar most recently starred on the small-screen opposite Robin Williams in the NBC comedy The Crazy Ones, and currently has a voice role on the Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels.
