Sony Pictures has released the first Sausage Party image online. The R-rated comedy will poke fun at Disney/Pixar films, and the story follows one sausage’s “quest to discover the truth about his existence,” after he falls out of a shopping cart and, along with his friends, embarks on a journey to return to his aisle before the 4th of July sale.

It’s a great concept, and they’re really going as far as they can with the production quality. Not only do they think they can get this thing looking as good as at least Toy Story 2 (a movie that still holds up), but they also brought in Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast) to write original music for the film. I like the level of ambition these guys have for a film where the title is a dick joke.

Check out the Sausage Party image below. The film will have a work-in-progress cut at SXSW this year, and opens August 12th. Sausage Party features the voices of Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Salma Hayek.
