Not entirely sure what to make of this new teaser trailer for Saw 3D, but it knows what to make of me: mincemeat.  The audience plays a major role in the new clip, first indirectly as a crowd gathers around a storefront advertising the latest in horrific torture technology --- then more plainly as theatergoers are strapped in to their seats with rusty metal contraptions to suffer the wrath of various sharp objects bursting out of the screen.

Check out the new trailer after the jump --- just make sure there's nothing sinister attached to the back of your chair first.

As someone who hasn't seen past film two of either franchise, you could trick me into thinking this was a trailer for Final Destination 5 with the faintest of effort.  That said, I kinda like the footage, even if I feel awkward watching it in 2D.  It stands out more than any Saw trailer in years, a good sign for a franchise that could probably use a shakeup seven entries in.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The SAW series continues with this seventh entry, spearheaded by returning SAW VI director Kevin Greutert. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton also are back to pen the script, which details the exploits of serial killer Jigsaw’s surviving victims, who seek counseling from a self-help mentor (Sean Patrick Flanery) whose past as a previous victim figures directly into each one’s fate. Cary Elwes returns to the franchise for the first time since his character survived Jigsaw’s first cinematic outing in 2004.
