All of the critics’ groups are announcing their picks for the best of the year, and now the one that I’m in (a critics’ group granted me admission for some reason!), the Southeastern Film Critics Association, has selected Moonlight as the best film of 2016. I have no problem with this selection. In fact, I have no problem with any of the films that made the Top 10. Usually, there’s at least one movie where I’m like, “How did that get on there?” but not this year. It’s a solid list, and the other categories are good too. I particularly like that Moonlight helmer Barry Jenkins tied with La La Land’s Damien Chazelle for Best Director.

Check out the full list of selections below, and stay tuned to the site as our staff will be releasing our Best of 2016 lists in the days ahead (click here for Best Horror of 2016).
