Who would have thought a movie starring two of the most sought-after stars in the industry would have had this much trouble finding domestic distribution? Serena features Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper as Serena and George Pemberton, newlyweds trying to build their own timber empire. The business takes off thanks to Serena’s ability and ambition, but when she uncovers the truth of George’s past, it threatens the stability of their marriage and business.
Two weeks ago it was finally announced that Magnolia, the sister company of Serena financier 2929 Productions, became the film’s US distributor by default. The movie will makes its way into theaters in early 2015 and at this point, I can’t wait just because I’m so curious to find out what went so terribly wrong. The trailer isn’t all that bad and I wouldn’t suspect anything’s amiss based on these five new Serena images. Hit the jump to check them out.
Here’s the synopsis for Serena:
North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s – George and Serena Pemberton, love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George’s hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pemberton’s passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic reckoning.
Reuniting Academy Award Winner Jennifer Lawrence and Academy Award Nominee Bradley Cooper on screen, SERENA boasts an incredible supporting cast in Sam Reid, Rhys Ifans, Toby Jones and Sean Harris.
