Magnolia Pictures has released the official US trailer for director Suzanne Bier’s drama Serena.  The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, which seems like a slam dunk except for the fact that the film was shot before Silver Linings Playbook and has been sitting on the shelf ever since.  Apparently it’s just not that great as distributors refused to acquire the film for quite some time, but this trailer certainly makes the movie look at least interesting in a go-for-broke kind of way.  Lawrence and Cooper play 1920s newlyweds who begin to build a timber empire, but their passion becomes hindered as a hidden past is discovered and Lawrence’s character decides to take fate into her own hands.

Here’s the official synopsis for Serena:

North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s – George (Bradley Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Jennifer Lawrence), love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George’s hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pemberton’s passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic reckoning.
