Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon has been set to direct the comedy Identity Theft. The project will star Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, and centers on a woman who steals another man’s identity (it's like Tootsie with more law-breaking). The script was written by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) with a rewrite by Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II). Originally, Bateman was to star opposite a male actor as the titular identity thief, but after seeing McCarthy’s scene-stealing work in Bridesmaids the actor pushed for McCarthy to be cast in the film. In addition to starring, Bateman is also producing the pic alongside Scott Stuber.

Deadline broke the news of Gordon’s involvement, and the director is coming off a big win with this summer’s comedy hit Horrible Bosses. New Line is already working on a sequel to the R-rated comedy and the studio is keen on bringing Gordon back. McCarthy has another big project in the works, the road-trip comedy Tammy. She wrote the script for the pic and 30 Rock vet Beth McCarthy was recently set to direct.
