Shadow Warrior 3 has been given a release date of March 1. The news arrived after the game’s listing was spotted on the PlayStation and Xbox stores. Among other news, the preorder goes live with some extra goodies thrown in the mix, including Shadow Warrior and Shadow Warrior 2.
Shadow Warrior 3 is the third installment of a reboot series of the original 1997 Shadow Warrior video game series. Developer Flying Wild Hog released the first of the reboot series in 2013. The first game of this new take on an old classic focused more on story and followed protagonist Lo Wang and Hoji, a demon companion, on their quest to retrieve the Nobitsura Kage blade. The sequel was released in 2016 and was more of a shooter action game and focused on Lo Wang’s mission to rescue a Yakuza leader’s daughter.
This newest release of the series finds our protagonist, now a freelance mercenary, once again on a quest. This time the goal is to find a dragon that he and his enemy turned employer, Orochi Zilla, inadvertently unleashed. They must kill the dragon and dispel the hordes of deadly demons to save the day once again.
Shadow Warrior 3 was announced back in 2020 and was originally planned to release last year. Not long after the announcement, Devolver Digital, the game’s publisher, released a deeper look into gameplay with a longer playthrough video; it provided a sneak peek into a mission called “Way to Motoko.” The gameplay highlighted a lot of new upcoming features, which included a variety of new weapons, items, and a cool new way to navigate the environment with a hook.
Since then, news of a release date arrives after a hectic 2021 delay. Devolver Digital, the game’s publisher, announced the delay in October last year, stating that Flying Wild Hog needed more time to work on the game in order to “sharpen its blades.” A trailer was released as a sort of apology gift to fans along with the promise of more release date news in the future.
Even though there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding Shadow Warrior 3’s store listings, it looks as all the details fans need are already available. Shadow Warrior 3 will launch with a price point of $49.99 and will include the option to download the first two titles for free. Another preorder surprise is the limited edition katana skin, which will only be given to those who preorder - sorry to everybody else.
