A few months ago we reported the ABC Family series Shadowhunters would be giving Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments the TV treatment. As Perri noted at the time, a TV adaptation was a surprise move given how 2013’s film completely tanked at the box office. And yet, here we are with the first images of the series, which has already filmed a few episodes.

Film is not always the right place to adapt certain novels, so perhaps the show will find its legs in the upcoming series. And though the McG angle (he's executive producing and directing the first episode) is one that will surely make moviegoers pause, I will say that he has been involved in some decent TV projects in the past, like The O.C., Chuck, and Nikita, for what that’s worth. Still, skepticism for this project remains pretty high.

For those are are unabashedly excited about this new 13-episode series, though, EW has now released a few new images. The photos, from episodes two and three, show Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) heading towards the City of Bones, as well as Jace, Clary, Alec (Matthew Daddario) and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) on a rescue mission. There’s also a warlock party-crashing scene, because why not?

Shadowhunters is slated to premiere in 2016. Check out the new photos below, and let us know what you guys think of them:

And here’s a synopsis for Shadowhunters, for the uninitiated:

Based on the six best-selling young adult fantasy book series, Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.
