Yesterday we got a look at John Watson’s (Martin Freeman) robust mustache game, and now, we see it in motion. In the first promo for the Sherlock Christmas special, Watson and Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), arrive at a snowy, Victorian-set 221B Baker Street, and are greeted by Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs). She’s not expecting them but, as Sherlock says, “that’s the trouble with dismembered country squires: they’re notoriously difficult to schedule.” Check out the first clip below:

It is truly wonderful to see the gang back together again on Baker, and I particularly love the meta references Mrs. Hudson makes to Watson about not liking his stories, because her role is reduced to just making breakfast and going up and down the stairs. And a reference to the Hound of the Baskervilles? It’s almost too much.

Even in such a short clip, it’s clear that the writing and the banter is as sharp as ever, and I cannot wait to see it all in full. Sherlock will air its Christmas special later this year (as the trailer says, it’s coming soon…ish). Series co-creator Steven Moffat also mentioned in the Comic-Con panel today that the special will be getting a theatrical release in certain theaters, but you can read all the details in our full panel recap.
