USA has unveiled the trailer for its new drama series Shooter. The show is based on the 2007 film of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg, which itself was based on the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. Wahlberg serves as executive producer on this new series alongside Stephen Levinson and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, while Ryan Phillippe steps into the lead role as an expert marksman living in exile who is coaxed back into action, only to be framed for murdering the President of the United States.
This trailer promises a thriller-type series in the vein of 24 or Homeland, and depending on how the story plays out could hold the same interest as those two compelling series. John Hlavin, whose resume includes work on The Shield and Trust Me as well as the feature film Underworld: Awakening, penned the pilot and executive produces the show, while Simon Cellan Jones (Jessica Jones, Generation Kill) directed the pilot.
