We at Collider are very happy to bring you an exclusive new clip from writer/director John Maclean’s excellent feature debut, Slow West. The darkly comedic Western stars Kodi Smit-McPhee as an immigrant traversing the American frontier in search for the woman he loves. During his travels, he stumbles across a mysterious badass played by Michael Fassbender, and the two find themselves on the run from a gang of outlaws.

This clip is from a scene towards the beginning of the film, in which Smit-McPhee and Fassbender’s characters first cross paths. As you can see, Fassbender opts to take the young man under his wing so to speak, but things aren’t entirely what they appear to be. I caught the movie at Sundance and it’s quite fun, with some excellent cinematography and an incredibly satisfying third act. It’s a really solid take on a “dark comedy Western”, and it makes me eager to see what Maclean does next.
