Just a few days ago, that other Snow White movie (the one directed by Tarsem Singh described as a light “comedic adventure”) finally got a title: Mirror Mirror. Now some new artwork has been released from the competing project based on the classic fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman. This one, directed by Rupert Sanders, is more in the vein of a Lord of the Rings-style epic, and is said to be rather dark and gritty in tone. Based on what I saw at the film’s Comic-Con panel, Sanders isn’t pulling any punches, and we’re in for quite the visual treat if his feature directorial debut will be anything close to the reel he showed us at the panel. This artwork is very much along those lines, and I think people are gonna be surprised when a trailer is eventually released.Hit the jump to check out the image. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, Noah Huntley, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Steven Graham. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st, 2012.Click for high resolution.snow-white-and-the-huntsman-banner-hi-resHere’s the official synopsis for Snow White and the Huntsman:

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her.  But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her.  Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.
