The first clip for Spectre has hit the web, and it sets up what promises to be a major source of conflict in director Sam Mendes' latest installment in the James Bond franchise. The clip introduces Andrew Scott's Max Denbigh, the new head of the Centre for National Security, and "cocky little bastard" in question. Den gloatingly delivers the news to a put-out Ralph Fiennes' M that the 00 program is officially out of business. That's probably not the greatest idea given that Chistoph Waltz's Oberhauser is off somewhere causing all kinds of trouble with his sinister organization SPECTRE.

Skyfall touched on themes of obsolescence as we saw Bond confront his own limitations in the face of new technologies. Of course, as the film eventually proved, gadgets only take you so far, and at the end of the day, sometimes you need a good old fashioned superspy to take out the big bad.

Spectre sees Daniel Craig reprises his role as 007, which also stars Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, David Bautista as Mr. Hinx, Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann, and Stephanie Sigman as Estrella. Spectre opens overseas on October 26th, with a November 6th release date in the U.S. Check out the first clip below.

Here’s the official synopsis for Spectre:

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.

Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.

As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.
