If you’ve seen the trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, you’ll notice that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has a new suit that’s mostly black. This is the “stealth suit”, and he gets it from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) after the two meet up in Europe. So what’s the purpose of the new suit?

Peter wisely notes that last time he and his classmates were on a field trip in Washington, D.C., Spider-Man came along and saved the day. It’s probably going to look a little be suspicious if they’re on another field trip in a completely different country and there’s Spider-Man yet again. The Stealth Suit represents a kind of compromise where Peter is wearing an all-black suit that lets him blend into the shadows. Of course, Peter being Peter and incapable of being completely cool, the goggles flip up rather than being part of the mask. The look of the suit is inspired by the Spider-Man comics Spider-Man: Noir and Spider-Man: Big Time.

While executive producer Eric Carroll told us the reason for the Stealth Suit when we visited the set last August, there are still definitely some questions. For starters, how much can any superhero hide in the shadows? There’s only one Spider-Man, so wouldn’t it look suspicious if someone with Spider-Man’s exact same power set started showing up in Europe? My suspicion is that that the Stealth Suit will keep Peter off people’s radar, and if Nick Fury is good enough to run S.H.I.E.L.D., he’s good enough to keep this “new” Spider-Man under wraps.

But we’ll have to wait and find out when the film is released on July 2nd. For more on Spider-Man: Far From Home, click on the links below.
