Two new images for Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel have been released online along with the caption “Look out and see a multiverse of possibilities ahead of you." The images reveal Spider-Man in his classic red suit, but people are left to wonder who the face behind the mask is.
Our hero could easily be Peter Parker in a new suit, but that can’t be said for certain. This animated franchise delves into the different renditions of Spider-Man, so it is impossible to pinpoint who is being spotlighted in the teaser photos. But the beauty and excitement of this new Spider-Man franchise is that truly anyone can wear the mask.
These new images of the unnamed sequel are instantly recognizable, purposefully including chromatic aberrations that make the first film such a stunning masterpiece. The official Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Twitter account shared these photos on Thursday, with the first image showing a figure in the classic suit, looking out onto the city skyline. Paired with it is a reverse-shot photo of the iconic mask and glistening in its reflection is the cityscape of New York City.
Another interesting element of the Twitter post is the use of “multiverse” instead of “Spider-Verse,” potentially implying the inclusion of characters beyond Spider-Man's universe. This could be the result of Sony and Disney’s new deal regarding the presence of Spider-Man within the MCU and potentially merge with MCU’s ever-expanding multiverse or Sony’s early-stage live-action Spider-Verse. As the Twitter post implies, one can only imagine what other deep-cut characters and top-level actors will be paired together to step into the next venture into the Spider-Verse.
The currently untitled sequel is set to be released on October 7, 2022. Check out the original post and photos below.
