Awesomeness Films has released a trailer for its bloody teen movie Spontaneous, which stars Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) and Charlie Plummer (Looking for Alaska).

Brian Duffield wrote, directed and produced this adaptation of Aaron Starmer's YA novel, which stars Langford and Plummer as a couple of high school students whose classmates begin to spontaneously combust, as in, explode, leaving bits of blood, brain and bone all over the place. I know high school can be hard for most people, but this movie takes things to a whole new level.

Piper Perabo and Rob Huebel co-star in this surreal satire alongside Insecure star Yvonne Orji, who appears to be some kind of government agent investigating the mysterious incidents.

Duffield produced the coming-of-age comedy with his Jurassic Party partner Nicki Cortese, as well as Matt Kaplan and Jordan Levin. As a screenwriter, Duffield has a mixed track record, but that's hardly his fault, as he was rewritten on the Kristen Stewart movie Underwater and Netflix's The Babysitter, while his acclaimed script Jane Got a Gun was plagued by behind-the-scenes drama, including a last-minute director switch. Spontaneous marks his feature directorial debut, so he had greater creative control this time around.

Spontaneous will be released in select theaters on Friday, Oct. 2 before hitting premium VOD on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Watch the trailer below, and let me know in the comments if you think Langford and Plummer make a good onscreen couple.
