12 days. Only 12 more days until this onslaught of marketing material for Star Wars: The Force Awakens dithers, if only for a little bit before it revs up yet again for Rogue One or Star Wars: Episode VIII or the Blu-ray release of The Force Awakens. December 18th can't come soon enough but at least the latest piece of advertising is focused on a character that has remained relatively mysterious through all this nonsensical build-up. Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron, the Black Leader of the resistance, is the focus of the later poster for the new Star Wars film, and boy does he look serious. Beside having one of the more interesting names in the latest installment of the franchise, Isaac is easily one of the best actors to be involved in J.J. Abrams' film, alongside Carrie FisherAdam Driver and Harrison Ford.

2015 has been a solid year for Isaac. Following his magnificent, mordant performance as the titular folk singer in the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, one of the best works to date from the fraternal duo, Isaac has been on an incremental rise, including his work in the slightly underrated A Most Dangerous Year and The Two Faces of January in 2014. In 2015, however, he was the clear standout in Alex Garland's mildly overrated Ex Machina, in which he co-starred with fellow The Force Awakens thespian Domnhall Gleeson and Bourne 5 co-star Alicia Vikander, and Poe Dameron looks to be one of the major characters of the newest trilogy of Star Wars films, alongside John Boyega's Finn and Daisy Ridley's Rey. And this isn't counting his work as the titular villain in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse - I won't blame him for the silly character design. Regardless, Poe is already set to appear in Rian Johnson's Episode VIII in some way and that alone cements Isaac's role as one of the most sought-after character actors in the modern cinema.
