We may be done with Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers, but if you thought we were anywhere close to done with marketing for the film, then you don’t know the power of the dark side. Even after J.J. Abrams’ announcement that there would be no more domestic trailers, we still got an international trailer, character posters, a TV spot, banners, and now on Thursday ABC (which is owned by Disney) will have a special The Force Awakens preview during their “TGIT” block of programming that includes Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder.

Shonda Rhimes, the creator behind these three shows, tweeted out the following earlier today:

It’s a smart move by ABC because it gets fans who would normally never watch those shows to tune in for even the mere hope that there could be a few brief seconds of new footage, and it also woos the largely female viewership of those programmings towards seeing the new Star Wars movie. It’s that whole “synergy” thing you keep hearing so much about.

We’ll also probably see Rhimes and her actors reminisce about how much they love Star Wars, and it will basically be double-promotion for everything across the night. ABC isn’t new to this kind of promotion, and they’ve done it in the past with Marvel. This is just on a much larger scale, and it’s during sweeps.

If you don’t feel like sitting in on shows you’ve never seen before to get a few brief scraps of new footage, I’m sure they’ll pop up online moments after they air. That’s not to direct you away from Rhimes’ series (I hear nothing but good things about Scandal and HTGAWM), but if you’re only in for the footage, there are probably more efficient ways to spend your evening.
