Today at Star Wars Celebration, a new trailer and release date were revealed for the highly anticipated upcoming video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The new action adventure game hails from Respawn Entertainment and will be a single-player, story-based game (i.e. don’t expect Fornite-like Battle Royale) and tells an original Star Wars story revolving around a young Padawan. The game takes place shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, right when the Empire was rising to power.
Cameron Monaghan—who plays Joker on the Fox series Gotham—plays the lead role of Cal Kstis, one of the last surviving members of the Jedi Order following the purge of Order 66, which identified all Jedi as traitors in the eyes of clone troopers and led to a massacre of epic proportions.
As we see in this trailer, Cal is trying to live life as a working class individual, but finds it hard to keep his Jedi powers under wraps. The notion of getting to live out the role of a young Padawan in a new Star Wars game is certainly intriguing, and one hopes Fallen Order is able to live up to the hype.
There have been a number of good, bad, and ugly Star Wars games over the years, and as someone who found Star Wars: Battlefront supremely underwhelming, I’m much more looking forward to the single-player, story-based gameplay of Fallen Order.
