Disney XD has just released a teaser trailer for the season premiere of Star Wars Rebels Season 2, which will be double the length of a standard-issue episode of the Disney XD series. The teaser gives a glimpse at Darth Vader, voiced once again by James Earl Jones, preparing and then finally enacting the Siege of Lothal, a major event in this timeline. Of course, we only got our first glimpse at Vader in the series proper at the end of last season as one of Emperor Palpatine’s most trusted agents; Vader did appear, briefly, in the Star Wars Rebels film Spark of Rebellion. In the series, he joins Agent Kallus, voiced by David Oyelowo, and Grand Moff Tarkin, voiced by Stephen Stanton, as the Emperor’s most trustworthy commanders to squash the rebellion, after the death of The Inquisitor. The trailer puts special focus on the entrance of Darth Vader and his role as the lead villain of the Season 2, alongside Tarkin, who looks to take over control of Lothal.
The teaser also suggests some less-than-pleasant occurrences for the main characters, specifically Hera Syndulla, voiced by Vanessa Marshall, and Kanan Jarrus, voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr. There’s no real telling what will go down until the season premiere, but there has been much talk about the darker tone and storyline of Star Wars Rebels Season 2, which is seemingly confirmed in much of the action seen in the trailer. The final image sees Kanan preparing to face-off against Darth Vader, which will likely prove the climax of the hotly anticipated first episode of the season.
Star Wars Rebels Season 2 will debut on June 20th at 9 p.m. on Disney XD. Watch the teaser trailer below:
