Last night was a big night for people who still watch the MTV Movie Awards, which is apparently a lot more than I thought. The big news was the new Suicide Squad trailer, with a whole bunch more Joker footage, but there were plenty of other tidbits floating around involving other big films coming down the pike.

Case in point: Josh Horowitz caught up with Rey herself Daisy Ridley to get her thoughts on the Rogue One trailer - she thinks it looks great -  and ended up getting a bit more hints about where we might be heading (or not heading) with Star Wars Episode VIII. She took a moment, first and foremost, to vaguely dispel the working theory that Felicity Jones' Jyn in Rogue One will turn out to be Rey's mother, saying "just because she's white and has brown hair..." As if I didn't like this woman enough, she went onto tell Horowitz that she does in fact know who Rey's parents are and that it didn't matter a lot to her portrayal of Rey in The Force Awakens. She rightly put stress on the fact that her character is finding her place in this new world rather than searching through her past, and letting that inform her character more than it needs to at this point.

I couldn't agree with the actress more on this point, and there is simply no way for me to tabulate how many times I've rolled my eyes since hearing the theory of Rey and Jyn being related. But I digress. Ridley, who is currently in early discussions to possibly take on the Lara Croft roll in a Tomb Raider reboot, also teased that Rian Johnson's Episode VIII will be darker, and questioned the idea that just because Rey is attuned to the force, she must be a Jedi. It's an interesting short discussion for Star Wars fans, and you can take a look at the whole thing right below
