In 1959, Robert Heinlein's controversial novel Starship Troopers debuted on bookshelves.  Nearly 40 years later, Paul Verhoeven's 1997 satirical take became a cult hit and landed an Oscar nomination.  Now, it looks like Annapurna Pictures might be involved with a reboot of the sci-fi flick.  The first film enjoyed modest critical and box office success, enough to launch a series of direct-to-video sequels in the 2000s.  The last we heard of a possible reboot on the franchise was over two years ago when producer Neal H. Moritz and screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz were reported as working on the remake.  Hit the jump for more on the property's recent developments. In an age where anything and everything is being adapted, readapted, rebooted, and re-imagined, it's no stretch of the imagination to say a Starship Troopers remake could be on the way.  And two of Vehoeven's most iconic films - RoboCop and Total Recall - have already been re-imagined in the past two years alone, so why not another?

While the basis of today's news might be a little thin, it does come from the world of social media where more and more development news is being broken.  Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures tweeted earlier today:

To which Ellison responded:

So, like I said, pretty thin.  Perhaps Ellison was merely enjoying a late Saturday morning viewing of Starship Troopers and felt the need to share via Twitter.  Then again, this is the production company that's taken on a wide range of projects, from Zero Dark Thirty, to Spring Breakers, to Her, to the upcoming Foxcatcher.  Oh, not to mention they were one of the companies behind the current Terminator reboot before leaving financing obligations up to Skydance and Paramount.  However, they appear to still be attached to the follow-up films in the planned trilogy, so big-budget sci-fi adaptations are clearly in their wheelhouse.  However this news turns out, be sure to let us know how you feel about the potential Starship Troopers reboot in the comments below!
