With writer/director Sofia Coppola’s (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette) Somewhere playing in limited release, I was recently able to sit down with Stephen Dorff to talk about making the movie.  In Somwhere, Dorff plays “a bad-boy A-list actor stumbling through a life of excess" when his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) unexpectedly arrives to live with him. Most of the film takes place at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood and like all of Coppola’s movies, the film moves at its own pace. You can learn a lot more about the movie and watch the trailer here.Anyway, during the interview we talked about how much of Somewhere was in the script and how much did they find on set.  In addition, we talked about the "challenges" of having to rehearse Guitar Hero and I also asked him about one of his previous movies Entropy (which is worth checking out if you haven't seen it).  Hit the jump to watch the interview:Finally, if you missed my video interviews with Sofia Coppola or Elle Fanning just click their names.Stephen Dorff

  • Entropy talk
  • Was it tough to have to "force" himself to rehearse playing Guitar Hero. Tells a funny story about rehearsing to the previous version of the game and when they got on set they had the prototype of the new one
  • How much of the movie is found on set and how much was in the script. Talks about how the script was 48 pages and not overwritten.
